How this grade calculator works

This weighted grade calculator combines scores from assignments, quizzes, and exams according to how much each one counts toward your final grade. Add as many assessments as you need, set the weight for each (weights do not have to add up to 100%), and the calculator updates instantly.

The weighted grade formula

Current grade = (Σ score × weight) ÷ total weight

  • Score = the percentage you earned on an assessment
  • Weight = how much that assessment counts (in percentage points)
  • Total weight = sum of all weights entered so far

Score needed on remaining work

Needed on remaining = (Target × 100 − weightedSum) ÷ remainingWeight

Where remainingWeight = 100 − totalWeight. If your weights already total 100%, there is no remaining work and the "needed" figure is not applicable. The tool tells you the average score you must earn on whatever portion of the course is still ungraded to reach your target grade.

Letter grade scale

  • A — 90% and above
  • B — 80% to 89.99%
  • C — 70% to 79.99%
  • D — 60% to 69.99%
  • F — below 60%

Letter grades are a quick reference. Your school may use plus/minus modifiers (A−, B+, etc.) with slightly different cutoffs — always confirm against your syllabus.
